Surgeries & Clinics
We hold weekly clinical meetings to talk about evidence-based medicine, new clinical guidelines and research, clinical governance issues, individual patient care, and continuous clinical audit review to improve the quality of care we provide.
Choose and Book
Where you need referral for specialist treatment we will endeavour to offer choice of care provided.
The practice uses an electronic booking system to be able to make referrals to both local and more distant hospitals, which is usually a faster way of processing your referral. The system allows our doctors to offer you a choice of several different secondary care providers (hospitals).
A booklet called ‘Choosing your hospital’ is available in the surgery, please ask for a copy.
You can also get further information from the NHS website: www.nhs.uk/England/Choice
In addition to healthy lifestyle advice, it is beneficial to have specific screening for certain conditions. Many people are familiar with the national screening programmes, such as cervical cytology screening and breast screening and more recently bowel cancer and chlamydia screening.
However we also offer screening for patients at risk of
Cardiovascular disease which is the medical term for heart attacks, strokes and other diseases of the circulation
COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) more commonly known as chronic bronchitis, emphysema or bronchiectasis
Diabetes for those patients at risk
Osteoporosis is a loss of some bone material, making bones more prone to breaking (fracture). Osteoporosis mainly affects older people, but can affect anyone.
Long term conditions
They include among others:
Chronic Kidney Disease
Many live with a condition that limits their ability to cope with day-to-day activities. For some people, especially older people and those who have more than one condition, discomfort and stress is an everyday reality. Our priority is to improve care for people with long term conditions by providing expert care delivered close to home by doctors and nurses at your general practice. The practice clinical team has a wide range of experience enabling us to provide the very best clinical care to our patients. With expert monitoring, treatment and appropriate self-help you can very effectively reduce the risk of serious complications. What's more, you can lead an active and normal life. In fact, with a little help from us and perseverance from you, you can actually become healthier than before, once it is under control.
At the practice we offer a number of diagnostic services and procedures, tailored to the needs of our patients, to save you the time and inconvenience of having to go to hospital, or similar service. These include:
Family Planning and Smears
Smears can be booked during routine nurse surgeries. The surgery provide a wide range of family planning services and we fit our own coils and implanon
Child and Baby Immunisations
We encourage all parents to immunise their children, and our practice nurses hold a weekly clinic on Thursday afternoons. Children are invited and sent appointments- if for any reason you are unable to attend, please contact the surgery to re-arrange. If you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s immunisation please contact the practice to discuss with a member of the clinical team.
We offer a minor surgery service at the practice- please book an appointment with a GP initially to discuss your needs, and so they can assess you.
Central surgery has a wealth experience in dealing with people of all ages, including our teenage patients. We also have access to other services that are available to young people, so if you have a problem that we are not able to deal with, we can put you in touch with someone that may be able to.
Confidentiality is treated in a highly professional manner so remember that anything you discuss with us remains confidential. You do not need to have an adult with you when you come to your appointment. If any matters do need to be discussed with anyone else or you need to be referred for specialist opinion this would be made very clear to you during your consultation.
We would like you to feel that you are welcome at the surgery and trust us to look after your health needs.

Other Special clinics
Counselling service ‘Good thinking’
The practice provides a specialist service for travellers requiring vaccination and immunisation. Qualified nursing staff are on hand to offer advice and administer vaccinations.
Correct immunisation is vital to ensure good health whilst travelling and our staff are fully up-to-date with the latest vaccination requirements in each part of the world.
Please plan well ahead if possible. It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible and at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.
We are a designated YELLOW FEVER VACCINATION CENTRE. Please note that Yellow Fever vaccination is a chargeable service.
Please call 0844 499 6973 to arrange an appointment
There is information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below. Click here to see more info on travelling aboard.
